In case you haven’t noticed, as of late it seems that all of the good latte makers are coming out of Central America. Think about it: Pedro “the clover” Martinez, Raul “la crema bueno” Sanchez, and of course six-time female lactose champion Guadalupe “froth queen” Ortega. What do they all have in common? You guess it, Central America.
As told by Brandon, “One day in Antigua, Guatemala, doing latte art demos, barista training, and Whynatte propagandaing at Finca La Azotea, a coffee farm and roastery.
The employees were disappointed to hear that the Whynatte has not yet been located in Guatemala…”

Latte making is like baseball, in that building a championship teams starts with good scouting. With the barista training camps in the US overflowing with marginal talent, it makes sense that barista scouts like Brandon have taken to recruiting talent from overseas:

It takes a real expert to draw a 1994 Toyota Corolla with the foam of a latte, but that’s the kind of raw talent we’re now seeing out of Central America:

Maria is only 13 years old, yet already showing signs of greatness. A natural two handed grip, a torso basically built for brewing, and an obviously sharp eye for detail, make her one of the most sought after minor league baristas:

This is Felipe. Felipe is one of the top espresso prospects in all of Guatemala, and will probably end up getting signed by one of the big barista outfits in the US.
